MAX for MAX: Avionica’s satLINK MAX Earns STC on 737 MAX 8

MIAMI – January 19, 2018 –  Avionica successfully completed the first Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for their flagship Iridium transceiver, the satLINK MAX. The STC was performed on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

“Earning this STC on the new generation 737 MAX is a great accomplishment for Avionica,” said Mr. Raul Segredo, president of Avionica. “It’s another in the growing list of STCs that we’ve completed for our family of products.”

Developed in parallel with the 737 MAX, the satLINK MAX is Avionica’s solution for multichannel communication on the Iridium global satellite network. It offers two flight deck Air Traffic Service (ATS) Safety Voice channels with priority capability, one Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) channel that is certified for FANS-1/A(+) and optimized for maximum throughput, and one additional channel that can be used for cabin communications or dedicated datalinks.

“satLINK MAX is the perfect solution for 737 MAX 8 and other commercial aircraft because of the size, weight and functionality of the system,” said Avionica Engineering Vice President Ms. Simone Drake, who is also a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) for the company. “The power of the system enables satLINK MAX to provide Quick Access Recorder (QAR) and Aircraft Interface Device (AID) functions on an EFB, as well as server capabilities to host applications, such as e-Techlogs.”

The optional avWIFI enables seamless integration with portable electronic devices, such as EFBs, smartphones and any wireless tablets, which can be used to connect to the secure system to utilize hosted applications on the server or to make voice calls through the Avionica satLINK mobile app.

Using the avRDC MAX, Remote Data Concentrator and QAR, a significant reduction in installation time and weight can be realized, while also providing convenient support for Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) and live aircraft data access to Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs).

Avionica’s avCM Cellular Module offers both automated QAR data offloading to a backend avSYNC server system and on-ground internet access for EFB updates and operational datalinks.

Avionica Extends thier avWiFi STC for e-Enablement Connectivity

avWiFi front600

MIAMI – May 12, 2017 – Avionica announced today that they received an amended Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for their avWiFi product. The expanded STC builds on Avionica’s connectivity capabilities from the cockpit to the terminal, as well as the connection between the cockpit and the airline’s database at the gate so a carrier can take advantage of low-cost broadband data transfer.

Kalitta Air is the first Avionica customer using the amended avWiFi STC for on-the-ground, dual-path internet access. In addition to terminal wireless applications, the avWiFi STC seamlessly supports crew wireless applications with approval for all phases of flight. Avionica’s avWiFi and STC approval includes stringent FAA testing requirements to ensure flight and cabin crews maintain connectivity throughout the flight.

“This is another important step toward e-Enablement and EFB connectivity,” said Anthony Rios, vice president of sales for Avionica. “It builds on our long history in terminal wireless that began in 2003 with our secureLINK. We appreciate Kalitta’s support and assistance in this development project that now allows Avionica to provide our customers with Gatelink services on a large array of aircraft.”

In addition to adding the Boeing 767 series aircraft with Kalitta’s fleet, Avionica has also partnered with Air Greenland to add the Bombardier DHC-8-200 series aircraft to the growing list of Avionica e-Enablement and connectivity platforms. With the avWiFi, Air Greenland enables Terminal Wireless connectivity for automated flight data downloads.

The amended STC for avWiFi has an Approved Model List (AML) that includes the following airframes:

Boeing 777-200/-300 series

Boeing 767-200/-300/-300F/-400ER series

Boeing 737-300/-400/-700/-800 series

Boeing DC-10, MD-10, MD11 series

Bombardier DHC-8-200 series

Avionica Supplies e-Enablement for Icelandair’s B737MAX Aircraft

MIAMI – April 30, 2017 – Avionica, Inc. has been contracted by Icelandair to provide products and services to e-Enable Icelandair’s 16 new B737MAX aircraft. Beginning this year and continuing through 2019 when final aircraft deliveries are made, Icelandair will install Avionica’s e-Enabled avionics that include satLINK MAX Iridium satellite communications system and aviONS Onboard Network Server.

“Avionica’s integrated e-Enablement solution allows Icelandair to deploy an advanced e-Enablement system at a fraction of the OEM catalog price. By using avSYNC service, Icelandair will save more than USD$4M in hardware and communications services on the new 737MAX fleet,” said Bragi Baldursson, Head of Design for Icelandair.

Avionica’s solution for Icelandair includes:

satLINK MAX Iridium satellite communications system

aviONS Onboard Network Server

avCM 4G cellular device

avSYNC QAR download

satLINK MAX is the industry’s only 4-channel, FANS-1/A and ATC Voice Safety Service approved Iridium SATCOM system. The multitude of Iridium channels enables Icelandair to maximize e-Enabled aircraft connectivity without restricting critical Voice and FANS-1/A safety services.

aviONS provides an open-platform network solution supporting airline and third party e-Enablement systems. aviONS enhances airborne connectivity with global 4G Cellular using avCM and aviONS’s WiFi connectivity for crew wireless applications including efficient in-flight reporting of cabin discrepancies.

To manage connectivity, Avionica’s avSYNC global data transfer network provides automated data transfer between aircraft and their operation center. As Icelandair’s e-Enabled aircraft focus is efficiency, avSYNC’s ability to automate data synchronization of onboard applications would become a key component of its strategy.

“We are very proud to continue our partnership with Icelandair in challenging the industry with better flight data and communications solutions. Icelandair’s confidence in Avionica’s e-Enablement and global communications solution as an alternative to costly catalogue options is a testament to the exceptional value Avionica continues to deliver for Icelandair,” said Avionica Vice President of Sales, Anthony Rios.
