avSYNC
Automated Data Synchronization Service Aviation has become an increasingly data-centric field. New generation aircraft routinely generate Gigabytes of flight and maintenance data annually, while numerous airborne systems require both regularly scheduled and repair-related software updates. In-Flight Entertainment systems are also increasingly field loadable via mass storage devices. The result has until now been a steadily increasing workload for Maintenance, Engineering, and IT departments. Now, Avionica’s suite of wireless data collection and management solutions is available with avSYNC, a comprehensive, secure, and time tested data management service solution.
Eliminate Infrastructure Headaches Your job is to run build an airline, not a technology company. avSYNC is a secure, web hosted application (SaaS), and therefor poses no requirements to augment your IT infrastructure. Avionica hosts scalable, redundant servers in hardened server farms in support of your IT requirements. Data is conveyed directly to and from our miniQAR, secureLINK, and avRDC solutions over secure, encrypted Virtual Private Network tunnels. Files may be transferred to or from any location with Internet access. Avionica’s 3G wireless devices even eliminate WiFi access point coverage, security, and maintenance headaches. Scalable Performance, Predictable Pricing Avionica has made using the avSYNC service not only simple, but affordable. Whether you operate 10 aircraft or 500, you can now avail yourself of a single, low, fixed cost per aircraft to download flight data with our service. Need to upload flight data? Avionica handles that as well, for a low, fixed cost per Megabyte.
Configurations for Every Requirement As a technology company, Avionica realizes the ongoing challenge of maintaining a stable, secure network. As a Flight Data Services company, we also understand the proprietary nature of flight data. Avionica offers two configurations of avSYNC in satisfaction of most airline requirements: Our Cache and Forward (CaF) configuration fetches customer flight data via secure VPN and stores it on our servers. Once transferred, the data is conveyed to the customer’s site (or Avionica’s FDM/FOQA service or other FDM/FOQA provider). A copy may be retained if required, for as long as required. Our Remote avSYNC Server (RaS) configuration establishes concurrent connections between the aircraft, Avionica, and the customer server; fetched data is neither seen nor stored on Avionica’s servers.
Always Compatible
With avSYNC, you can rest assured your data will be delivered quickly, securely, and in the same format in which is was generated. Whether it’s flight data enroute to an FDM/FOQA department or third-party provider, or MP3 files enroute to your In-Flight Entertainment system, avSYNC ensures a perfect copy every time. And if file transfers are interrupted, they simply resume where they left off.

avSYNC Topologies
Remote avSYNC Server (RaS) Configuration
• avSYNC Server inside customer firewall connects to the Avionica avSYNC VPN network • Connection is persistent, enabling secure access by miniQAR or other devices via the Internet • miniQARs (2) and other devices check in to Avionica’s avSYNC Servers (3) • Validated device check-ins are forwarded to the customer’s Remote avSYNC Server (1), at the customer site • Data is transferred from miniQARs directly to the customer’s avSYNC server via the secure VPN network • Data is stored to a local drive mapped within the customer’s avSYNC server
Cache and Forward (CaF) Configuration

• miniQARs (1) and other devices periodically connect to the Avionica VPN network via the Internet • Connection is persistent, enabling secure access by miniQAR or other devices via the Internet • miniQARs (1) and other devices check in to Avionica’s avSYNC Servers (2) • Data is transferred from the miniQAR directly to Avionica’s avSYNC Servers (2) over the secure VPN network • Data is stored in a secure Cache and Forward (CaF) data store awaiting customer client access • avSYNC client (3) image running inside customer’s firewall connects to the Avionica avSYNC VPN network • Data stored in the Avionica Cache and Forward (CaF) data store is transfered to the client machine (3) • Customer client stores data to a local drive mapped within the customer’s avSYNC client machine
